Summary
To produce a 3 to 4 minutes animated film called Slip about two children making a mistake and meeting their consequences.
Synopsis
Two children trespass and disrespect the property of a mysterious witch and they pay for their actions.
Project Description
The animation will be about two children looking for insects as fish baits and stumbling upon a place where they shouldn’t be. Knowing that they are not allowed there, they intrude the property and take the insects from the area as their baits. Later they are punished for their ignorance. The story will have a Grimm’s fairytale feel to it; children’s stories with dark content and brutal endings. Magic and spirit are thought to be mumble-jumble by the majority of people these days, especially with people living in the cities and surrounded by technology. Personally, I’m too afraid to not believe in superstitions. Some of the old sayings are hokum, but it’s best not to violate them.
Visual Treatment
The background of the animation is going to be in 2D digital cutout to enhance the children storybook look. I will work with a lot of textures and patterns. There will be small amount of animation within the scenery elements to be part of the storytelling. The main programs I’m going to use for developing the images are Photoshop, Illustrator, Aftereffects, and Flash. Photoshop will be mainly use for processing the image files such as the cutouts for the background. Illustrator and flash use vector, therefore, they are good for animation with alpha channel. The characters within the film will be traditional 2D animation. Although I’m inclined to experiment with 3D character animation and render it out with 2D look, I feel I’m stronger with traditional hand drawn animation.
Sound Treatment
There will be no dialogue in the film. The characters will communicate through their acting and other visual aspects. Most of the sound will be ambient noise and other sound effects. At the beginning of the film, the music will be subtle yet cheerful. It will turn eerie later to build up the mood at scenes like under water part. So far I only know about Premier to work with sound.
